A short history: Rotary year 1954 – 1955
Beginnings
The Rotary Club of Upper Hutt was chartered by Rotary International on November 1, 1954 as part of RI District 39 (1949) renamed as RI District 294 in 1957.
The Rotary Club of Hutt, led by President Pit Pitkethley, is the Mother Club and President Pit was appointed by District Governor Pat Fagan of Masterton as the DG’s Special Representative for the formation of a new club in Upper Hutt.
The organizational meeting on July 29, 1954 was organised by DGSR Pres. Pit and attended by the members of the Rotary Club of Hutt at the Maoribank Tearooms with the thirty one (31) prospective charter members. It was during this meeting that a resolution was approved for the formation of a provisional Rotary Club of Upper Hutt.
